DANTE ALIGHIERI POETRY COMPETITION

LISA BAIL - YEAR 9 ITALIAN STUDENT

On Thursday 8th June, the Year 9/10 Italian class headed off to Melbourne to compete in the Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition.  Although we were nervous, it was a very exciting and unique experience.  The train trip there and back was worth it.

There were eight students from our school competing in the competition at Melbourne University.  Everyone had spent weeks learning their poem and practicing each lesson. Students gave it their best shot and had an enjoyable day.

Our first stop was Lygon Street where we indulged in Italian favourites, such as pizzas, calzone, and magnificent sweets created by Brunetti’s Cafe.  The food was spectacular!!!

We then headed off to Melbourne University to recite our poems. Well done to all who competed as well as Mrs Salvo and Kylie who made sure we all survived on the day!!  Hopefully, we will see a few students advance to the finals!!
