ARMIDALE DIOCESAN CROSS COUNTRY

A massive congratulations to the team who competed at the Diocesan Cross Country last Friday. We have 5 children who were successful in gaining a place in the diocesan team. Well done to Hudson Young, Sophia Marshall, Lily Gibson, Tyler O'Neile and Lyla Davidson.

DIOCESAN RUGBY TRIALS AND GARY MCSWEENEY CUP

Well done to the team who played at the Gary McSweeney Cup on Monday. The day began with a minute silence in memory of Gary who passed away in March this year.

Gary’s involvement in Sport for the Armidale Diocese commenced in 1992 and over the years, he has held a number of positions such as Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics Carnival Convenor and Team Manager.  In 1997, Gary took the first Polding athletics team to a NSWPSSA carnival. This was the first event that Catholic students were able to compete in.

Gary significantly influenced the commitment to allow Catholic students to compete against Public and Private schools at the NSWPSSA Sporting fixtures. Gary was the first Catholic to be appointed in an executive position in 2005-2009 as NSWPSSA Vice President, affectionately known to the non-Catholic committee members as Pope. Gary was the Senior Vice President for NSWPSSA and he has held this title since 2010.

Our team made it through to the semi-finals. Congratulations to Chase Pritchard, Xavier Parris, Thomas McDougall and Tyler O'Neile who were selected in the Armidale Diocesan Rugby team to compete at the Polding carnival in Forbes next month.
