YEAR 2GRADE SPOTLIGHT

YEAR FOUR GRADE SPOTLIGHT

In Religion we have been learning about all the people who serve us in the St Nicholas Parish and wider church community. We have also been looking at why acts of service are so important.

Last week, Fr John McHugh called in to visit our grade and talk about all the ways that he enjoyed serving the church. The children thought of many wonderful questions to ask and Fr John said he can’t wait to come back and speak with us again as we even ran short of time.

We had spent time creating ‘Thank you’ cards for the amazing people who serve in our parish and presented them to Fr John at his visit. He was delighted to be able to take and distribute them to all of the hard workers.

Year 4 also spent some time writing prayers for those who generously give up their time to serve. Please take the time to read just a couple of the beautiful prayers included:

Year 4 Prayers of Service.

Dear Lord,

Thankyou for creating the helpers who serve in the church. Their hard work is cherished by all. We pray that these helpers are loved and cared for throughout their life. St Nicholas Parish is extremely lucky to have these people helping out in the church.

Amen.

Dear Lord,

Thankyou for sending all the people that help out our church community. Whether it’s donating, setting up the church, feeding the poor and all the other helpers. Please bless them to live long and happy lives.

Dear Almighty Lord Our God,

Thank you for creating people who serve in our church each and every day. Thank you also to the people who donate and show kindness to the priest and the poor. May you always bless them so that they might live a long and happy life for their good deeds.

Amen.

Dear Lord,

Thank you so much  for creating the beautiful singers in the choir that fill our church with joy and sound so beautiful.

Whenever I go to church I can hear the AMAZING singing. It always makes me feel so joyful and calm. Thank you for serving our church in this way.

Amen.

Impact of New K-2 Syllabus on Reporting

This year, our K-2 teachers have been implementing the new English and Mathematics Syllabus. In Mathematics, this has taken place through the application of the MaST program which is taught across all 21 primary schools in the Armidale Diocese.  The new curriculum gives students more time to focus on key concepts so they can acquire a deeper understanding of essential knowledge and skills. It ensures students develop strong foundations for learning as they prepare for life and work in a complex and fast-changing world.

The new syllabu emphasise key concepts, identify essential knowledge and skills and include new outcomes to clearly show what is essential. To reflect the outcomes of the new English and Mathematics syllabuses, the language of the Semester 1 reports will change for Infants students. Please see the table below which compare the outcomes and language of the current Years 3-6 and Kindergarten - Year 2 syllabuses. Further information about the changes to reporting will appear in later newsletters and a more detailed explanation is available during your child’s student led learning conference.
