Cows Create Careers

Over the next three weeks, through the Cows Create Careers program, Year 10 Agriculture and Horticulture students will learn about dairy industry careers in a very hands-on way as they rear and care for two three-week old calves. The students will learn how to care for the calves and demonstrate skills such as animal husbandry, feeding and weighing. The project highlights the diversity of skills and professional careers within Australia’s vibrant dairy industry and highlights the range of university, vocational and professional pathways within the industry itself.

Year 10 Agriculture and Horticulture Excursion – Mainstream Aquaculture & Velisha farms

Last week, the students of Year 10 Agriulture and Horticulture as part of their Sustainable Farming visited Mainstream Aquaculture and Velisha farms.

At Mainstream Aquaculture, the students were able to see how combining a deep understanding of Barramundi biology with state-of-the-art technology and a scientific approach to fish raising, results in the world’s largest sustainable Barramundi hatchery.

Velisha Farms is a national horticulture business supplying fresh produce to wholesale markets, retail customers, and food service. Their range includes Brassicas like cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts, and kale, as well as lettuce, celery, spring onions, zucchini, cucumbers, and inger. The students were able understand the importance of the industry and where our food comes from.
