Message from Principal Sally

Principals' Day

As you will see in the Year 1 article following, this day was acknowledged with much enthusiasm by Year 1 , their teachers and members of our school leadership team. The day was initiated 18 years ago by the Victorian Principals' Association. I  was delighted by the lovely thoughts from Year 1.

There are other days in the school calendar that help us focus on  the people who make our schools wonderful. World Teachers day will be the 25th  October when we come back from term 3 break and also Education Support Personnel (ESP) Day which was celebrated on 16 May 2019.

The Third Space

I can honestly say that the work of a school Principal is never dull and often very unexpected events occur within moments of each other. This week, I was fortunate to speak with a member of Dr Adam Fraser’s team about Fraser's  educative research and books.  After this short conversation,  I am interested in reading, The Third Space . Fraser's book talks about using  “that moment of transition between a first activity and the second that follows it” to reset between roles and tasks.

Different roles this week have included parent meetings, system wide change and support meetings, DET compliance and census surveys, wellbeing conversations, sharing Year 6 writing tasks and assisting Craig. Craig is the new maintenance person. He  is working out how to secure the bike shed that is constantly being broken into. I don’t think I transited through The Third Space successfully today but I aim to improve once I’ve read the book in detail.

2019 Parent Opinion Survey

WE INVITE OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Wednesday 7 August to Sunday 11th August.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.

Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.
