As another busy term draws to a close I’d like to reflect on how our wonderful students are making the most of their opportunities, every day! 

Duke of Edinburgh – GOLD award

Ellie Jones is representing the school on Friday at Parliament House, as she takes out the Duke of Edinburgh GOLD award, commenced while she was a student of our Year 10 Advance class.  She has the honour of giving a speech on behalf of all awardees.

Photography Competition Winner

A talented photographer, Liam Hindle won the “What’s your renewable energy future” photography competition run by the Centre for Continuing Education.  Liam speaks positively about taking up the opportunities afforded to him by Cobram Secondary College. 

Representing student views with the School Review Panel

Ellie Jones and Mitchell Hawke represented the school on the panel of our School Review and contributed their thoughts and ideas about improving our school.  Ellie and Mitchell were joined by many students who participated in the focus groups to give their opinions about what we can do to improve our school. Thanks to Kiera Mathers, Lilly Reynolds, Cody Deegan, Daniel Campbell, Sarah MacDonald, Victoria Zoch, William Watson, Deacon Forster, Tylah Trenerry, Alannah Furmston, Cameron Johnston, Simon Kelly, Grace Kelly, Mariah Yarnold, Kawthar Aljassim, Teagan Mitchell, John Hammersley (Year 10), Jack Andrew, Declan Cheong, Jade Williams and Brody Tenney.

Sporting Triumphs

We have our fair share of students making the most of their opportunities and talents in sports.  Nikita Carroll took out 1st place in Girls 13 years GMD Cross County, and Naomi Hooper took out 3rd place in Girls 15 years, GMD Cross Country.  

Rural Youth Ambassador

We have a number future leaders at our school and they are making the most of every opportunity to develop their leadership skills.  Teagan Mitchell continues to travel to Melbourne in her role as Rural Youth Ambassador.

RSL Event – Speech by former Cobram Secondary College student

Chief of the Air Force, Air Marshal Davies

A group of Year 8 and Year 12 students went to an evening event hosted by the Cobram Barooga RSL and heard former Cobram Secondary College student and Chief of the Air Force speak.  Air Marshall Davies encouraged our students to follow their dreams and explained the range of careers offered by the Defence Forces.  Sarah MacDonald and Jaimee Brereton (Year 8) and Alannah Furmston, Ellie Jones, Mitchell Hawke and Tristan Grinter (Year 12) were also in attendance.

Hosts for open days and Taster days.

Open Days and Taster Days are important days for our school.  We get to showcase the great activities on offer and share a little about what it’s like to become a member of the extended Cobram Secondary College family.  It’s also time for our students to showcase their leadership and public speaking skills.  A huge thanks go to William Watson, Tylah Trenerry, Harry Spicer, Ruby Higgins, Rory Murdoch, Josh Noonan, Maddy Wilkinson, Ellie Karnatz, Josephine French and Paulie Degei for making our Grade 6 visitors feel so welcome on Taster Day.

School Review – Update

Our School Review panel met last Monday and is continuing with fieldwork days – including classroom observations, student and parent forums and staff interviews.  If you would like to attend a parent forum, please contact me at school.
