House Captains Report

College Captains

This term has definitely started with a BANG! We are very blessed and thankful to be the 2018 College Captains, and are super excited to be working side-by-side with our amazing WAAM and SLT. College Captains first started on the Year 12 Jumpers for 2018, and we would like to thank all entries for the jumper design, and congratulate Kriesha on her wonderful emblem. Upon this, we held our first Class Captain meeting, where they will now be under the portfolio of College Captains. We congratulate all the girls in each pastoral class for 2017 on their wonderful contribution to the College. For the remainder of the term, we want to wish our 2017 Year 12 students the best of luck on their upcoming exams and endeavours that may pursue in the future. We also want to continue to give our leaders all the support they may need for the rest of the year.

Wellbeing

The Wellbeing portfolio started out this term celebrating all of this years sporting achievements with the annual sports representative lunch. All girls that participated in a SCSA sport this year were invited to come and enjoy lunch and listen to our amazing guest speakers Alyssa Mifsud, who is a former student, now playing for the AFLW and Sarah Mollison a champion Australian women’s lacrosse player. It was a very successful event and it was great to see all the girls come to celebrate MSJ’s 14 SCSA wins for the year, as well as students who received their badges for participating in four or more SCSA sports.

Coming up for the rest of the term, our junior house leaders will be running a Year 7 downball competition which will hold prizes for the winning house.

The senior year levels also have some fun house competitions to look forward to before the end of the year.

May the best house win!

Arts

The Arts portfolio has began this term with the ever important MSJ radio, every Monday morning we will be sharing the events and important days for you to remember.

We are also calling all the artists of MSJ to participate in our very own Archibald Portrait Prize Competition. We are asking for people to create a portrait of anyone from the school, whether that be a teacher, student, staff member or volunteer. We want to recognise the hard work of all the people that make up our school. Submission can be handed into Mr Meilak, the competition will close on the 16th of November, so be sure to show all your artistic talents. Finally, the arts team are really excited to present the musical for next year, with auditions possibly starting this term, so keep an eye out for any upcoming announcements and audition dates.

Academic

It is nearly the end of the year and examination period for all year levels is approaching. This can be a stressful time for all but remember to get plenty of sleep, eat healthy, take breaks and enjoy yourself. It will help relieve some of the stress and keep you sane as you study hard for exams. Do not give up and good luck to everyone!

Homework Club is still open every day to students who prefer to stay and study in the library after school and it is a great opportunity to ask for homework or exam revision help from the LRC staff. Also, Maths help is still running this term every Monday and Wednesday at lunch and Friday mornings in the LRC.

Stay tuned for a whole school Kahoot this term and many more competitions next year.

Ministry

The Ministry portfolio kick-started off this term with the celebration of Fr Julian Tenison Woods Day. We had a sustainable artwork: ‘plastic bag flower making’ activity running at lunch to commemorate his love for the Earth. We were thrilled to see so many people eager to get involved and be sure to keep an eye out for the beautiful display that will be coming soon! We would also like to congratulate the Junior and Senior Cameron leaders for their fundraising efforts in raising money for their chosen catholic ministry through SOCKTOBER, and thank you to everyone who wore crazy socks and brought a donation. We would also like to remind everyone that the annual  Christmas Hamper Appeal has begun, so make sure to check what your class has been allocated to bring in. There will be a prize for the class who donates the most.
