Reflection
This week is the start of Spring. In Spring we start to see a change in the weather and new life and growth can be seen all around us. The beauty of God’s creation starts to shine, in some senses, in a more obvious way. The season itself invites us to take time, stop and notice the beauty and changing nature of God’s creation all around us. We can see the flowers bloom, the new growth come, the blue skies and we can be blessed to take time sit and enjoy.
As we contemplate our College theme of ‘One in Christ, Engaging Minds and Igniting Hearts’ the season of Spring has something to teach us. To have our minds engaged or to have our hearts ignited we need to be present in the moment. Present, engaged and given to the here and now moment. Some spiritual writers talk about the sacrament or the sacredness of each and every moment. If we make a decision and ask the Holy Spirit to help us to be more present in the moment, we will have our minds engaged more deeply in the here and now, and have our hearts ignited with love for the people we are present to.
It is only in the present moment that we can love God. He gives us each moment as a gift of love and invites us to love in return. If we are graced to live more deeply in the moment we will see and experience things in a deeper and more beautiful way and experience God’s presence. Our faith teaches us that we live in the presence of God, who is always with us. Let us pray for the grace to live with Him, be aware of Him, have our heart ignited and our mind engaged in the here and now of life, loving and serving Him in all we do.
