7's Rugby Gala Day
Our Rugby League 14's and Opens team represented Uralla Central School at the Small Schools 7's Competition in Inverell last week. Our 14's side came up against some handy teams with many more substitutes, but our boys pulled together and managed to get a win, draw and two losses for the day. Unfortunately due to injury, our final game against Bingara had to be forfeited. It was excellent to see the level of ability, heart and potential coming through our younger years. A special mention to Ashton Jones who, playing up from Year 6, managed to score a try and more than handle himself defensively in the older age bracket.
Our Opens team were behind from the start, with only five men showing up for the day but we were able to use some willing participants from our friends at Inverell High School. The boys worked hard, with no substitutes and niggly injuries, we did not manage to get away with the 'Big W' for any of our games. It was thrilling to watch the boys play some hard football; not giving up nor allowing their numbers to falter their resolve. Our Most Valuable Player for the day would have to go to Matt Morris. Nursing a knee injury, he managed to score and set up tries effectively from halfback in all of our games, with a defensive effort that would have impressed Nathan Hindmarsh.
Well done on your efforts boys, we'll be looking to training and future games for further improvement.
Soccer
Our Years 3-6 boys soccer team played Walcha Central School at the Uralla Sportsground on Friday 23 June and had a convincing win with a final score of 11-0. It was not an easy win and both teams played very well, demonstrating fantastic sportsmanship and teamwork. Alec Ellston scored 8 goals of his own, with Cooper Smith, Ben Kaberry and Lachlan Williams scoring one each as well. Mason Cole had two near misses and Meyrick Griffiths did an outstanding job as goal keeper. Hats off to Noah Hunt, Dominic Kliendienst, Ashton Colwell and Aiden and Josh Kurrika, who were such great defenders that the other team couldn't manage to score a single goal. All of the boys should be immensely proud of their efforts. As their coach, I could not be prouder of their progress as a team.
