#VSSS19

Congratulations once again to all of our GEC students who were involved in this year’s Spectacular - whether in the Mass or PAU Choir, our students represented the College (and the amazing talent that we have here in the performing arts) brilliantly! It was a huge undertaking with rehearsals going on for most of the year, but all who came along and watched either or both of the performances enjoyed it thoroughly. It was a great opportunity for our students and we can’t wait for next year!

Stay tuned for details of the television broadcast, hopefully sometime in early December!

This year I participated in the Victorian State School Spectacular in the PAU choir and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I got the opportunity to experience being in a large-scale show made up of people my age who have the same passion for performing that I do. The variety of songs we performed allowed me to test and extend my range and repertoire not only vocally, but as a performer, something I consider unique of the Spectacular. I met people from all around the state and made some friends and memories that will last for a long time. I can’t wait to audition again and to see how much further the State School Spectacular can take me.

Something Spectacular in 2020 (#VSSS20)

Are you interested in the performing arts, working in creative industries, or simply love to dance or sing?

Registrations are now open for students to participate in the 2020 Victorian State Schools Spectacular, which will be staged at Melbourne Arena on Saturday 12 September 2020.

Students can perform on stage or gain hands-on experience behind the scenes across all creative disciplines under the guidance of industry professionals.

The program helps to develop each student’s performance skills, resilience, perseverance, cooperation and confidence over months of training in a non-competitive environment.

It involves industry partnerships and mentorship for both on stage and behind the stage students.

Students who take part in the Spectacular are provided a rare experience: performing in a world-class arena for a television broadcast.

Students can get involved in several ways:

  • Talented musicians, dancers, and singers can register to audition for the main vocal, dance and orchestra cast at the Department’s Performing Arts Unit in Collingwood, or submit a video audition.
  • Students who have other specialty skills – such as skaters, acrobats, skippers, cheerleaders or circus performers – can register to audition at the Performing Arts Unit or submit a video audition.
  • Students interested in audio, lighting, film, photography or stage management can register to participate in a structured program of workshops, as well as production week at Melbourne Arena.
