Mock Trials

We hit a bump with our first Round 1 of Mock Trials last week when the judge failed to show up so it had to be rescheduled for this week. By way of a consolation prize the Law Society organised the venue to be the Old Law Court where students could dress in the robes of the original court of Western Australia. We put up a great defence for the teacher accused of slapping the student and ‘won’ the case but we were narrowly defeated in the trial itself going down to Santa Maria by only a few points. This was a great effort by the team which was made up of some “old” and “new” members who enthusiastically attended lunch meetings in preparation of the case.  The team was as follows:

Barrister 1:           Georgia Williams

Barrister 2:           Thomas Paparo

Solicitor:               Florian Mitteregger

Witness 1:             Anastasia Beasley

Witness 2:             Amelia MacMillan

Judge’s Associate:  Roberto Vitali-Lawn

We are also pleased to have a large group of reserves who have been diligently attending meetings:

Charlie Richards, Cullen Binet, Hannah Flavell, Jack Baker, Rory Hewson, Sofia Bevilacqua, Toby Morgan, Arden Sicard.

A thank you to Ms Daisy Farley (appointed lawyer) for her legal support to our students.

Many thanks also to family members who came along on both nights to offer support.

Have Sum Fun

Over the last two weeks, our young mathematicians have been busy taking part in the annual ‘Have Sum Fun’ competition.  During the evening of Friday 10 March, two teams from Year 11 and 12 visited Hale School to participate.  On Friday 17 March, two teams from Years 7 and 8 competed at Duncraig Senior High School and two teams from Years 9 and 10 competed at Woodvale Secondary College.

Our bright and competent students brainstormed and worked together in this highly challenging and competitive maths competition. Students placed very well in each year category and they are commended on their strong efforts.

This experience has ignited and deepened our students’ passion and love for mathematics and problem solving. All students and staff involved enjoyed this wonderful yet challenging mathematical experience.

Koolyangarra House Day

On Thursday 16 March, Koolyangarra House celebrated its annual House day.

We started our celebration with a Liturgy led by our students.   This was  followed this by a slip-and-slide and pool time for all students, before we gathered to share a pizza lunch together.

This was a lovely opportunity to celebrate being part of our wonderful House and to bond with other House members. All students thoroughly enjoyed this fun filled day.

This year each House is building on the Ignatian value of being ‘men and women for others’.  The Koolyangarra House leaders stayed after school on our House day and cooked 86 meals for ShopFront. This was a wonderful way to finish our House day celebration.
