EDUCATION PERFECT LANGUAGE CHAMPIONSHIPS - WE ARE THE (ALMOST) CHAMPIONS, MY FRIENDS!

Although we did not make it to number one this year, it is with much joy and pride that I announce that we achieved second place in the championships with 569,464 points.

PARTICIPATION OF GERMAN YEAR 7 STUDENTS IN THE AGTV POETRY COMPETITION

The AGTV Poetry Competition is an annual event run by the Association of German Teachers of Victoria with a long-standing tradition of celebrating the German language.

Learners of German from all over Victoria will be participating in this unique event and every candidate will receive a certificate for their performance. There are also prizes to be won for the top students in the state!

During these unusual times, this year’s event will be run differently. Our German Year 7 students are going to learn off by heart a poem and produce a recording of themselves reciting it. This recording will then be presented to a panel of judges from the AGTV.

This incomparable literary experience will be rewarding for our students and will give them a glimpse of German literature and its importance to German culture.

The learning and reciting of a poem requires enthusiasm, effort and commitment. Our students will be able to listen to recordings of the poems in class and at home, learning verses and stanzas gradually. Once these are mastered, we will then start working on perfecting expression, intonation and pace. In some of this year’s poems, our students will recognise terms and phrases they have already learned in class, which certainly will help them to memorise them and at the same time enjoy and appreciate them.

Viel Spaß!
