MUSIC NEWS

WELCOME BACK

Welcome back to school. It has been fantastic to engage with students online in a totally different way, and every member of the music department is now looking forward to starting to work with their students face to face.

VCE classes have started this week and that includes all instrumental and senior ensembles. Please note that choir will be on hold until term 3. Ensemble directors will be in contact with the members of their groups over the next few weeks to advise of anything major.

INFORMATION AND REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL STUDENTS ON RETURN

  • Unfortunately, the annual Winter concert will not be happening this year;
  • Concerts will be held online during term 3. These may be live stream, or they may be video compilations - but at this stage there will be no late evening concerts held;
  • Students will require their own folder for music for ensembles, or a fully charged chromebook. In many instances ensemble folders will not be shared at this stage. A lot of music will be accessible by students in an electronic format (as it has been whilst we have been working remotely) and if students wish for a hard copy, they can print their own copy out;
  • Students who use larger instruments (tubas, baritone saxophones etc) will have one assigned to them that will be in use by that student alone;
  • Entry to all ensemble rehearsals will ensure that we have no congregating of students in the foyer;
  • The layout of the rehearsal room will be slightly different, with more space between instruments and the director of the ensemble;
  • All brass and woodwind students will need to have a small hand towel that they bring with them to lessons and rehearsals.

Classroom

  • All students will require their own headphones for classes in A05 - no headphones will be supplied to any student.

YEAR 10 MEDITATION MUSIC

Here are a few more amazing compositions from the Year 10 music class.

Nam Tran uses a great arpeggiated theme throughout combined with pulsating chords to develop a trance like state.

Georgia Foran has developed her themes to work with echoey birds that are heard throughout

Emily Andjelic has worked with the idea of repeating chord patterns against waves on the shore.
