After a warm autumn and early winter, our broccoli and cauliflower are finally being harvested to be enjoyed by our students in the SAKG program. We have been talking about how they grow and how to use the heads as well as the leaves and the stems. Many of the students have been quick to tell me that they don’t eat broccoli or cauliflower, but are amazed by the taste of the dishes when they actually give them try. This menu has consisted of:

  • Cauliflower, leek and potato soup
  • Rosemary focaccia
  • Broccoli slaw

As always, the students love making and eating bread, and this focaccia was a delicious alternative to bread rolls. It’s very easy to make and all students from years 3-6 will try this. All of this year’s recipes will be on their SAKG folder in Google Drive.

This Week's healthy habit tip is about BREAKFAST! Nothing starts our day better than a healthy and filling breakfast. Studies show that kids who eat a healthy breakfast are more focused, energetic and ready for a full day at school. For those that don't want a big breakfast, some granola with yoghurt, hard boiled eggs or even a banana will help them start their day.
