Kingfisher Fair

Great Southern Grammar was abuzz with activity on Sunday and was blessed with pleasant weather. Students along with parents took the opportunity to become involved in this biannual event. Students manned the food stalls, performed music, sold raffle tickets participated in the pet parade and set up entrepreneurial stalls. From my point of view, the Fair provides the opportunity to work collaboratively together for a common purpose. Although money is raised, the experience of achieving a common purpose is priceless.

I thank P&F President - Mr Jim Darmody and the P&F Management team, the P&F Year Level Representatives, Mrs Julia Bairstow - Community Relations Manager, Mr Gary Cross - Facilities and Property Manager, members of staff who contributed and parents who donated items and their time to ensure the Fair’s success.

Senior School Arts Exhibition – Creative Connections

This year’s Arts Exhibition showcased the talents of Visual Arts, Media Production and Drama Studies students.  The Visual Artwork offered the viewer an opportunity to view sculpture, ceremonies, paintings and drawings where students made connections to their context.  Media students created short films in a range of genres.  The Drama students performed their interpretation of August: Osage County.  Congratulations to all students and to Ms Rachel Mordy, Head of the Arts and teachers Ms Angelina Ross and Ms Katie Gunning.

Kingfisher Concert

The Kingfisher Concert was a crowd-pleasing event and enjoyed the addition of the Junior School Band and Soul Band. Students, staff, families, friends and the wider community enjoyed many memorable performances. The capacity crowd was entertained with string, flute and guitar ensembles, jazz and concert bands, junior and senior vocals, tiny trebles, violettes along with the popular pipe band and talented VET music students. The night concluded with the presentations of Year Twelve students who for many have been performing for us since early junior school days. In total, 25 Year Twelve students were acknowledged and congratulated.

Congratulations to our music staff involved under the leadership of Ms Emma Luxton, Director of Music and teachers Mr Todd Manson, Mr Joe Fowler, Ms Sally Bishop, Ms Hamsa Warrener, Mr Dan Burke, Mr Andrew Davis, Mr Matt Quicke and Ms Marie Limondin.  I would also like to congratulate Year Twelve student, Erin Bell, whose artwork appeared on the Kingfisher Concert programme and the Creative Connections Arts Exhibition catalogue
