Eucalyptus Group
Suddenly we are at the end of term 3 and unfortunately we haven’t been able to finish the term as we would all have liked. For those that are participating in remote kinder it has been lovely to keep connected in some ways, even though it isn’t the same as being all together. I miss being at kinder with all of the children however I am glad you are all safe.
In Term 4 most schools begin having some prep transition sessions and I encourage everyone to participate in these. School transition programs are an important part of progressing to school and they support children to process and navigate the change. I encourage you to chat to school if you have any concerns about transitions or how your child may manage. I am also happy to chat if you have any concerns.
At the beginning of Term 4, teachers write transition statements for all children going to school, as part of the transition process. These reports give the school an overview of your child’s learning, and strategies to support them in prep. There is also section for parents to fill out, and a child’s voice section too.
We have been trying desperately to book some incursions for the children and have had to post pone and reschedule until next term. Fingers crossed these will go ahead, making it a very busy and fun term. These incursions include Dream Puppets, Rabbit Rearing and Dinosaurs with the Melbourne Museum.
We found in Term 3 the Eucalyptus Group were working together in more complex and sustained ways, listening to each other, turn taking, sharing and helping each other. Building social skills and confidence and interactions are foundational for children when navigating the transition to school.
Some of the areas of interest have been space, camping/ billabong role play, café role play – making and taking orders, punching holes in café tickets, lego building, building with a variety of materials such as magnetic blocks, loose parts, painted boxes in the block area, board games, music, water sensory play, clay, using the water / ball run wall outside, making obstacle courses and also using the Jenga blocks as large dominoes.
Take care, enjoy the spring weather and see you soon,
Kirsty, Rex, Yvonne and Jane
