Junior School Captaincy Interviews
Mrs. Milich and I interviewed 21 current Year Five students for the positions of 2021 Junior School Captain. We were very impressed with the letters of application submitted by the students. They were detailed and adequately addressed the criteria for a school captaincy positions. The students presented very well at interview. Many proudly wore their tie and blazer. The students fielded questions with confidence, humour and honesty. We are certainly spoilt for choice. The Junior School staff will meet next Tuesday to select a boy and girl Junior School Captain. These positions will be announced at Speech Day on Friday, 4th December.
Year Two Reggio Art Winner
As part of their Reggio Shared Inquiry sessions, exploring the provocation ‘why do Indigenous People have a strong connection to the land’, and in line with Space Week, the Year Two and Three students participated in a nation-wide competition called ‘Paint the Sky’. Students were encouraged to explore the ancient ways Aboriginal Australians observed the solar system to better understand and manage our precious natural resources. The Reggio piece was written by Miss Simone Brabham, Year Two class teacher.
They were asked to visually represent their knowledge of ancient Aboriginal astronomy and our solar system in an original piece of artwork. Students took inspiration from some Aboriginal Australian pieces that they saw. They accompanied their piece with a short statement about what inspired their work.
The competition was open to students across Australia, from Prep to Year 11 and over 840 entries were submitted.
Freddy Nagorcka of Year 2 was selected as one of only 20 winners for his artwork titled ‘Speed Bird’. Freddy will receive a prize pack and have his artwork immortalised, digitally remastered, and featured at the International Scientific Assembly.
My inspiration for my painting is the Emu in the Sky constellation. I chose this because I love birds. I named my painting Speed Bird. The dots that are white represent the stars.
Year Six Camp
On Monday and Tuesday, our Year Six students ventured to the Grampians Retreat for two days of outdoor activities. The weather gods were smiling on the group, with two glorious days of sunshine. They walked the Piccaninny, tackled the giant swing, low ropes course and flying fox. Relief from the warm weather was found in the Retreat’s swimming pool. A big thank you to Mr. Palmer and Mrs. Patterson for supporting and encouraging the Year Six students on their final primary school camp.
Class Photos - Years One, Five and Six
Next Thursday, students in Years One, Five and Six are asked to wear their school blazer and tie to school. We are retaking the 2020 class photos. These will be made available to parents later in Term Four.
