ATTENTION BASKETBALL PLAYERS, COACHES, MANAGERS AND PARENTS – Important season update.

Please be aware that due to the uncertainties surrounding when contact training and competition can begin again for indoor sports under COVID restrictions set down by the government, the HBA has decided to postpone the start of the new season until the beginning of Term 1, 2021.

Importantly, please be aware that the season when it begins will cover the period between Term 1 until the end of Term 3 – so this means that those of you that have registered your interest to play already for a College junior team MUST BE COMMITTED for the length of this season.

Could you please have a think of what your commitments may be for this period, obviously including winter sports, and if you decide you can no longer commit to a team in 2021 contact Mr Alexander if playing Under 14, 16 or the new 18 and under competition or Miss Brabham if playing in the Under 10 or 12 competitions by Friday 20th November at the latest.

We plan to not change the teams if we do not need to so if we don’t hear from you we will be placing you in a team for next year. Team entries will be due to the HBA by early December with the plan to have them finalised this year and ready to go when school resumes next year.

There is no word on SENIOR basketball as yet and we will outline details of the return to senior basketball when it comes to hand.

If you have any queries please contact either Mr Alexander at the Senior School or Miss Brabham at the Junior School

Best regards,

Leigh Alexander and Simone Brabham

BALLARAT REGATTA REPORT

What an exciting weekend for College rowers. The opportunity to race at Ballarat on Saturday 7th November was taken on enthusiastically by all. With a great increase in the Club size this year, we were able to enter six quads and a double skull in the regatta. Despite the unusual state of the regatta with restrictions resulting in no spectators and a unique race schedule, all rowers competed to their very best.

Some great achievements included the First Boys’ win in Open Division 2 - congratulations to Milo Cooper, Harry Mould, Ned Walker, Sam Crawford and cox Millie Howells - as well as the success of the Double consisting of Beccy Koch and Nina Pern in Open Division 1. We should also mention the well deserved first place in the Female Coxed Quad Scull Year 8 Division 2 of Xarifa Christie Hill, Miranda Page, India Ross, Arabella Dunston coxed by Olivia Handbury who were closely followed by their rival College crew in second place at their very first regatta. All College rowers should be extremely proud of their efforts and the way each individual carried themselves at the regatta.

We would like to acknowledge the organisation and devotion of our Head of Rowing Dr Hirst as well as Mrs Archer’s involvement behind the scenes. A special mention goes to Mr Palmer for putting up with rowers on the journey to and from Ballarat on the bus whilst a tremendous thank you goes to parents involved and in particular Sarah Covill for providing rowers with nutritious food throughout the day. We are thrilled to have a large number of new rowers this year and encourage any students to come down to the lake on Tuesdays or Thursdays to give rowing a go.

Cricket

Great to see some fine batting and bowling performances to match the recent weather we have been having. Last week saw our U16s experience the new and improved CCC main oval, a big thank you to Heath Schmidt for his hard work and dedication in his pitch preparation and Nick and the rest of the College ground staff for their ground maintenance. It is also pleasing to see so many past and present juniors playing CCC senior cricket and contributing with both bat and the ball.
