Specialist Sport Term 1 2023

Weight Room Update

Over the summer holiday, Rob Simmonds and Jacob Borner were both very busy in making the weight room a clean and inviting space for our athletes to enjoy. Some old equipment was removed and replaced with refreshed and multi-functional equipment. All walls were painted and new flooring laid. We now have a magnificent space for Staff, Students and Community Members to enjoy safely. It is almost complete with some finishing touches still to come. Well done and thank you to those that volunteered!

2023 Specialist Sport Camp Update

Camp has been very hard to decide on this year, however we have confirmed that Sydney Sports Academy is the place of choice. If any student in the Program still wishes to express their interest, they can do so via the Google form sent out by Mr Borner a few weeks ago. Activities and facilities are fantastic and dates have been confirmed for the August 14th to 18th. The activities can range from stand-up Paddle Boarding and archery tag, all the way to lovely nature hikes, Team Building and Weight Room options. Hopefully there will be some time to take in the tourist hot spots of Sydney as well.

VET Sport and Recreation Sports Days—Ballarat North Primary

Our Year 10 cohort of VET Sport and Recreation Students have been busy in their theory studies for the beginning of their Cert III in Sport and Recreation. It is paramount that they also have exposure to the wider community and potential instructional model they may use in the future. We have partnered with some local Primary Schools to help with their Athletics Carnivals and our fist stop was Ballarat North Primary. We had some great feedback from parents and staff of North Ballarat and we hope to continue this when we help Miners Rest Primary in Term 2.

Term 2 and 3 Specialist Sport Training Programs

2023 is the Start of the Program under new management with Jacob Borner taking the wheel. After a great handover from Liam Towell, the program is set to be heading in an upward trajectory. Jacob will be focusing on increasing student numbers and creating an inclusive and inviting program that will be tailored to suit all athletes and help them reach their goals. 2023 will also be the start of our first swimming program where swimmers will have time in the pool (not at 5am!!) We have also asked for the help of our other local service providers to bring the best to our best. Term 2 and 3 are going to be great fun!
