Formula Student - Le Mans Race Car Update #1

This is the 2nd year that Marist College has run the Certificate II Engineering Pathways (MEM20413) race car program through Formula Student. This exciting senior VET subject allows the students to gain their qualifications and develop their skills by machining, fabricating, welding and manufacturing parts for the race car. Students then must assemble all elements of the car which involves significant safety features, wheel alignments, bleeding brakes and engine installation to name a few. When completed, the car is subjected to meticulous scrutineering by officials before it is allowed on the track where the students will drive and race at Lakeside later this year.

This article serves to inform you of the Formula Student program and keep you up to date with the progress of the build.

On Wednesday 1 March, Michael Jackson from Procloud Designs came out to the College to discuss possibilities about the design and finish of the race car. Procloud Designs specialise in decals and wraps on the surface of the fibreglass shell which will make it very striking with the Marist theme and colours. Michael spoke to the Year 12 class about what he does and how he does it. We were all very excited about the prospect of the car looking amazing. Coincidentally, Michael Jackson is the son of Mr Peter Jackson who is a staff member of 30 years in the Grounds Department of Marist College. We very much welcome Michael and thank Procloud Designs for their support and sponsorship of this project.

This will be the first of many articles keeping the College Community updated with the progress of the build. Thank you to the students for their dedication and enthusiasm and also to Mr Adrian Gray for his expertise as he leads the program into this second year.

College Tours 10 March 2023

The College Tours last Friday saw the Hospitality boys put on a masterclass in catering providing delectable treats and a first-class coffee service for the College guests. They were run off their feet but did an excellent job catering for the masses. Congratulations to Cyrus Kwok, Harry Holland, Nathan Lam and Nick Nodari.
