News from Year 6

Year 6 Jackets

The anticipation of the Year 6 Jackets arriving has been hard to contain over the last few weeks. Every day one student would ask " Have they arrived yet?" and  "When will we be getting our jackets?"

WELL......  The day finally arrived!

This week our Year 6 students were presented with their Leadership Jackets by their Year 1 buddy.  It was a very special and long-awaited moment!

Upper Yarra Transition

Yesterday Year 6 visited Upper Yarra Secondary College to get a taste of high school. They participated in a maths class and a drama class, and were treated to hot dogs for lunch. A great time was had by all!

Learning this term

This term the year 6 students have been extremely focused when learning. In Literacy they have been working on the correct use of commas and sentence structures and have enjoyed the challenge of making sentences grammatically correct.

Do you know what a fronted adverbial is, or the difference between a main clause and a subordinate clause?  Ask a year 6!  They are so good at this, they should be able to tell you and give an example!

In Inquiry, years 5 and 6 have been learning all about the process of elections and the differences between each level of government.  This has been great learning for students, especially in terms of who are the politicians who lead our country and the difference between responsibilities for each level of government.

Lately, we have been focused on learning about the Stolen Generation and the impact of this on Aboriginal families.  We have also learnt about minority groups and the struggles that these groups have had in order to have equal rights.  We are hoping to consolidate this learning next term with an excursion to the city.
