News from One/Two

Hi everyone, the holidays are fast approaching however we have still been very busy in the 1/ 2 classroom.

The children have had lots of fun designing and planning their community precincts. These wonderful creations can be seen at the front of our 1/2 room however here are some photos of the amazing work that was completed. Thank you Libby Bradshaw for coming and helping our classroom on two Friday afternoons with this project.

It was also fantastic to see our local police visiting us the other day. Conversations around how the police help to keep our community safe were the main focus. The children also learned about the Victorian Police Badge – nicknamed ‘A Freddie’ and what to do if they ever needed to call the police. The children were told that if in an emergency these would be some of the questions asked of them by the police.

  1. Their mother or father’s full name.
  2. Their address.
  3. Their mother's or father’s mobile phone number.

Over the last week, the foundation and 1/2 classes will be discussing what other emergency services can help us in our community. They will be role-playing scenarios where they will use 000 and how to help others using empathy. The 1/2 students will also be designing and making a fridge magnet that will assist to remind them when to call 000 in an emergency.

Next week, on Tuesday morning at 8:45 am we will be presenting our Holy Week story of Palm Sunday to the school. We have worked really hard on this with children reading, acting, and singing! We would love you to come along and watch if you're available!

Thank you for helping your child with their reading and spelling during this term. Please note there will be no home readers and spelling words in week 10 as we have a shorter week and are heading into the holidays. If you would like some decodable texts to take home for reading over the break please let us know as soon as possible and we will endeavor to get them to you before the break.

Please also remember that the Victorian Premiers Reading competition has started and it is a great time to start this project during the school holidays. All children have been given a login where they can register the books they have been reading. I hope that our class will have the most readers! May the competition between classes begin!

Have a lovely, safe holiday.

Kindly,

Jacqui and Terry
