News from Foundation

Jolly Phonics

The Foundation students have been working extremely hard this term learning lots of new letters and sounds. We have been writing sounds, listening for sounds, recognising sounds and reading sounds. During this term, the Foundation students have used a range of different materials to develop their learning and understanding of these sounds. We have used playdough, rice, sand, paper and more to make the letters. We have also used lots of different songs and actions as well as letter crafts to help us really remember the letters and sounds. Here are some pictures of the cute letter crafts we have made:

Patterns

This week in maths we have been investigating patterns! We loved listening to the Pevan and Sarah song about patterns because it taught us that a pattern repeats itself over and over and over and over again! This week we have used lots of different hands-on materials to make our patterns. We used counters, shapes, teddies, rocks, buttons and more! They did a great job at creating their own patterns as well as finishing off each other's patterns.

Police Visit

Last week we had a visit from the Yarra Junction Police! As part of our Inquiry unit, we have been learning about communities. Part of our learning about communities was about who can help us in the community. The Yarra Junction Police helped us to remember how important it is to remember our parents' full names, our addresses and our parent's phone numbers, if there is ever an emergency. It was great to learn so many different things about our police and where and how they can help us!

Religion

On Tuesday morning at 8:45 am we will be presenting our Holy Week story of Palm Sunday to the school. We have worked really hard on this with children reading, acting and singing! We would love you to come along and watch if you're available!

Homework

Thank you all so much for helping to facilitate our learning in the classroom in your home environment. Over the holidays it would be great for you to continue to engage with some reading, not compulsory but encouraged.

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter and holidays!!
