NEXT WEEK - MONDAY 20TH MARCH - St Joseph's Day & Harmony Week Celebrations

Harmony Week recognises and celebrates diversity and inclusion in Australia. Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.

Australia is one of the world's most successful multicultural countries and our cultural diversity is at the heart of who we are. Over half of Australians were born overseas, or have at least one parent who was born overseas. That's why it's so important that we celebrate our country's diversity through Harmony Week. Harmony Week is also about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, from the Traditional Owners of the land to our most recent arrivals. And celebrating that no matter where you come from, we're united by the Australian values of freedom, respect, fairness, democracy and equal opportunity. During Harmony Week events, Australians are encouraged to wear something orange to show their support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia.

At St Joseph’s School, next Monday, 20th March, our students will participate in a special day to celebrate St Joseph’s Day and Harmony Week through a range of activities that reinforce the concept that "EVERYONE BELONGS at ST JOSEPH'S". Please join us for mass and St Joseph’s activities before recess or Harmony Week Collective Artwork and our Sorrento Park Colour Fun Run and Special Lunch from recess onwards.

THIS WEEK is National Neurodiversity Celebration Week, a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder and many other neurological conditions. It acknowledges that some people learn and think differently due to their neurological differences. It aims to transform how neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported by providing schools, universities, and organisations with the opportunity to recognise the many strengths, talents and advantages of being neurodivergent (thinking outside the square), while creating more inclusive and equitable cultures that celebrate differences and empower every individual.

Many learning spaces will take this opportunity to read some beautiful new picture books purchased by the school, including ''All Dogs have ADHD", "All Cats have Asperger Syndrome" and "All Birds have Anxiety" by Kathy Hoopmann. These delightful books combines humour with understanding to reflect the difficulties and joys of living with a neurodiverse condition and celebrates what it means to be considered `different’ (available online).

The following FREE workshop for parents, sponsored by the Mornington Peninsula Shire and Frankston City Council looks wonderful for helping us support our children in coping with strong emotions. See below for details :

You are welcome to contact me if you would like to discuss the Social and Emotional Wellbeing needs of your child.

Warm Regards,
