Follow the Dream

Poly Farmer Foundation

Ranger Career Talk

Follow the Dream were fortunate enough to have Bronwyn Hall, Community Engagement Ranger from the Department of Parks and Wildlife visit FTD on Monday to discuss careers and pathways for becoming a Ranger. Students also learnt about life as a ranger, their duties and responsibilities and the other roles available within the Department of Parks and Wildlife. Becoming a Ranger is a popular career pathway for many of the FTD students and we look forward to creating closer links between FTD, SPC and the Department of Parks and Wildlife.

A huge thank you to Bronwyn for sharing her knowledge and some great advice to our students.

Headspace

FTD students visited the Headspace Work and Study Program activation in the Todd Mall last Friday. Students talked to Headspace and Congress Community liaisons about the Headspace Work and Study Program. The Program supports young people 15-25 to get a job or study with a personal Work and Study Advisor. Bunnings Warehouse team members were also on hand to answer questions about applying for jobs with Bunnings and team members taught younger students how to pot plants. Students were also treated to some give aways, games, arts activities, cupcakes and a BBQ.

Register for Work and Study support by visiting or visit the Alice Springs Headspace Centre https://headspace.org.au/services/work-and-study-support/online/register/

Congratulations

Congratulations to all of the 41 students who have participate in the Follow the Dream Program so far this Year!

This year we have 11day students and 30 boarders who have all participated with high levels of attendance, enthusiasm, effort and behaviour.

We have had visitors from the Australian Defense Force and the Department of Parks and Wildlife. We also visited Headspace to learn about their study and career support program. Student received over 36 hours of tuition this term from our amazing Polly Farmer Foundation tutors.

There are lots of exciting things to look forward to in Term 2 including the Leadership Excursion to Melbourne to visit universities to learn about career and study paths, Richmond FC to learn about careers in sports health and nutrition and also attend the Dreamtime at the G game for the AFL Indigenous Round!

I look forward to another great term! Thank you to all of the amazing families and boarding staff that support and encourage their children to attend.

Have a great break.
