Dear Parents, Families and Friends,
With the end of the term just around the corner, it’s great to look back on the many activities in our crowded calendar in recent weeks.
Last week we celebrated Harmony Day with the Round Square Committee hosting several events including a sausage sizzle, spider drinks, cake stall and live music on the day; and the junior leadership cohort organised an entertaining and informative assembly which was enjoyed by all.
The Outdoor Education team of Dave Atkins and Emma Shearer took a group of dedicated climbers to Mount Arapiles in Tooan State Park in Victoria. The students had the opportunity to improve their climbing skills and enjoy a world-renowned rock-climbing area.
Last Friday we farewelled our two international exchange students, Daniella and Jack from Gordonstoun College in Scotland. I am very grateful for the Holzmann and Renshaw families for hosting these students and taking the time to show them around Alice Springs and surrounding areas on the weekends.
Over the past two weeks, Year 7s and Year 9s completed the NAPLAN assessment for Literacy and Numeracy. These tests are designed to assess learning progress and provide information to the College regarding areas to develop in each cohort. For parents, the information will indicate whether your child is meeting expectations to participate fully in that year level.
This week we enjoyed student performances at S Factor during the long break. We were entertained by a variety of different genres in singing, and both the Year 10 and Year 12 music classes were involved. We have a depth of talent in our student body and we’re fortunate to have the instrumental expertise of Ed Nicholson, Peter & Nicola Gilham and the vocal prowess of Kristina Kidd to develop their innate skills.
Several Year 8 students participated in interviews with the Round Square committee to secure exchange positions in our national program. Lilli Morgan and Vicki Hutchinson together with Round Square Captains, Lilly Bloomer and Naomi VanDenBerghe have worked tirelessly to rebuild Round Square after COVID. Five Year 11 students have also been selected to participate in the International Conference in Kenya in October, a wonderful opportunity for all.
In our final week we will have Easter Service on Wednesday and then on Thursday we will conclude with the Interhouse Cross Country event and Quiz.
As this is our last newsletter of the term, I wish all our families and friends a safe and relaxing holiday break.
Kind regards,
~ Leslie Tilbrook
