Early Learning Centre

Enrolments are open for free 3 and 4 year old sessional kindergarten. 

Enrol through Casey Council for Hillsmeade Kindergarten. 

Long Day Care enrolments with kindergarten is through the ELC office.

What is happening in the ELC

Our Learning

Reading
  • Audio discrimination skills-Children listen and identify sounds played by instruments.
  • Tuning in to a specific letter contained in the book and practicing the sound(s) it makes; identifying words in the book beginning with that sound.
  • Children listen to well known stories, predicting text and upcoming story events.
Writing  
  • Children start to use symbols in their work to convey meaning.
  • Strengthening and refining fine motor muscles through engaging in a range of experiences such as playdough, peg boards, hammering boards, geo boards, threading, painting and drawing
STEM
  • Number recognition up to 10
  • 1:1 correspondence 
  • Exploring the properties of ooblek 
  • Investigating reactions between vinegar and bi-carb soda
Inquiry
  • Begin to consolidate their understanding of the Unit of Inquiry All About Me
  • Continue exploring models of a human skeleton and torso. Children create their own torso with organs.
Social & emotional learning
  • Children create faces out of salt dough, creating expressions.
  • Continuing to introduce the use of the Zones of Regulation, with children adding their photograph to the chart that highlights how they are feeling that day.
  • Children are encouraged to support their peers asking “are you ok” when they are upset.
