Year 10 Work Experience
Year 10 Work Experience – 22-26 June 2015
The Work Experience program is in full swing with over 300 students expected to undertake a Work Experience placement this year as part of the Year 10 curriculum.
Parents are reminded that the Work Experience Arrangement and Travel forms are due on Friday, 6 March.
Due dates have been set early to ensure our students have arrangements in place, as many other local schools run Work Experience in the same week and competition for placements is high. Students who are still waiting to hear back regarding a placement need to inform the Junior Resource Centre of the situation.
If your student has not organised their Work Experience can you please help them to find a placement in the coming week. The Work Experience Portal page is a great place to start as it has a list of past employers and placement ideas. Students can also get support from the JRC Work Experience Team at lunchtimes and recess, or by contacting Michelle Snooks on 9783 7955.
Thanks to the many students who have already submitted their forms.

State HPV Championships – Our Team Wins Bronze
Our All Girl HVP Team achieved Bronze in the recent State Championships held at Casey Fields.
This achievement marks two milestones for us – our first all-girl team and one of our best HPV results ever! Emily Cross (Year 11), Seren Knapp, Brigid Newton, Zara Mazzei, Serena Mandarino and Chloe Bellingham (all Year 8) were ably supported by Mr Craig Ridoutt and parents on the day. It was inspiring to see our girls battle two rollovers and several chain misalignments to complete 109 laps of the 1.6 km circuit.
Last week also saw the drawing of the HVP Team raffle where the winner, Mr Michael Fraser, was presented with a Weber BBQ and 10kg bag of heat beads. The raffle raised about $400 towards the cost of our new vehicle, which is due to be delivered later this month.
New International Students
At the commencement of this year we welcomed 12 new International students into our school. 10 came from China and are undertaking an intensive program in the English Language Centre for the first six months. Another student, Carolina is from Italy and Puyan is from Germany and both are studying in Year 11. We also welcomed Jessica from Soweto who is an exchange student, also studying in Year 11.
Attached are photos of our Chinese International students participating in their cooking class and they are all enjoying this subject with Mrs Sue Manks.
William Wang and Bruce Zhang - both enjoying cooking Chinese food for Chinese New Year.
Bags of Fun
The Middle School textiles class have been having a great time making these fabulous tote bags.
If you have any fabric, wool, trimmings or embroidery thread that you no longer have a use for we would appreciate you donating it to the school. As you can see, it would certainly be put to good use. Thank you in anticipation.

Year 7 Camp
On 18 February, 7D, 7J and 7H went to Golden Valleys Lodge for school camp. We participated in many activities such as: archery, kite making, low ropes, giant swing, flying fox and volleyball. Each night the group did an activity such as the Night Walk and Trivia Night. Whilst the Trivia Night was on there was a contest on who could do the weirdest thing with their body. The winner was Kye Munnikhuis with his crazy vibrating eyes. For dinner we had spaghetti bolognese and roast beef with potatoes and gravy. It was one of the best meals on camp we had. Breakfast was toast and cereal and you got to choose between the two. For lunch we had burgers with a piece of fruit.
The dorms where very good; they had about 15 beds each and they were very comfortable. We took our sleeping bags, a pillow and a bag full of clothes. During the day we spent our time playing ping pong, cricket and footy.
The giant swing was suspended between two 18 metre high poles. The flying fox was 120 metres long, it was amazing! The personal kite making was my favorite activity, I really enjoyed it because my kite was climbing the highest and it was in the air for the longest. Low ropes were really fun, I got around every one without falling off except for the rock climbing wall. When I was doing archery I found it challenging but I really enjoyed it, especially when I got a fluky bull’s eye.
