Middle School News

3 & 4

Wow! What an amazing Term we have had! We can’t believe we have almost finished Term One. We hope you all have a safe and lovely Easter break with your friends and families.

               Grade 3

Congratulations on completing the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Miss Healey and Mrs Tucker did an amazing job preparing a beautiful celebration. A big thank you to Mr Blake for your support and help.

Literacy

During our Literacy blocks we have focussed on explicitly teaching Persuasive and Narrative writing to support our students for NAPLAN. During persuasive writing, students looked at the prompts, ‘Do dogs make the best pets?’ and ‘Students need to play outdoors’.

Students picked a side and wrote a detailed persuasive text using emotive language to appeal to readers' emotions and change their minds on the topic.

Maths

During Maths, the Grade 3’s have been working hard learning their multiplication facts during Rocket Maths. They have loved working through this every Friday after assembly and becoming more proficient at their times tables. During our time unit, students used different strategies to tell the time to the nearest minute.

 NAPLAN

Well done to all of the students who completed NAPLAN. You all did an amazing job with the preparation leading up to NAPLAN and a fantastic job with all of your Literacy and Mathematic components. You should be extremely proud of all of your hard work.

Grade 4

Literacy

The grade 4’s have been doing an amazing job focussing on proper nouns and expanded sentences. During writing, students have incorporated all of their hard work from The Writing Revolution and written fantastic narrative stories.

Reading

Students have continued practicing their fluency during our oral fluency block 4 times a week. We have stocked up on library books, so every student should have a book that they can continue to practice their oral fluency over the school holidays.

Maths

During Maths, we finished exploring addition and subtraction, focusing on regrouping and using our place value knowledge to vertically add and subtract up to 5-digit numbers. During our Time Unit, students explored telling the time to the nearest minute, quarter to and quarter past, elapsed time and worded problems. It has been great to see lots of students having an analog clock displayed on their watches. Over the holidays, we would appreciate it if all students continued working on their multiplication and division facts.

Respectful Relationships

Thank you to all the parents that joined us for our Respectful Relationships open day. The students loved exploring the character strengths they currently show and what strengths they would like to focus on. Grade 4’s finished the unit explaining how they demonstrate these strengths and what they can do to improve on the strength they are focussing on. Next Term our focus will be Problem-Solving.

Embrace Kids Movie Night
