Swimming Carnivals

Today we experienced the final Interhouse Swimming Carnival for this year. The school has attempted to be inclusive of all swimming abilities and encourage students to attend to support each other. At the same time, we also want to encourage students to do their best and excel at this event. House spirit is easy to measure in terms of participation rates. This year we have seen an increase in students attending and supporting each other. Some students provided support through timekeeping, marshalling and other tasks while others competed in their first House carnival.

International Women’s Day

Wednesday 8 March was International Women’s Day, Embrace Equity.  This was an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women, raise awareness of the challenges they face, and promote gender equity in all areas of life.  Embracing equity means recognising that women have historically been marginalised and excluded from many aspects of society and working to create a more just and equitable world where everyone has equal opportunities and rights.  By embracing equity every day, we can create a more inclusive and just world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Mount Barker Bus Service

Last night, parents from Mount Barker and surrounding areas gathered to discuss GSG student transport issues along with Deputy Principal, Mrs Emma Franklin, Community Relations Manager, Mrs Julia Bairstow and myself. At present, the bus service is not meeting the expectations of a number of our parents. Securing a seat on the bus is proving challenging, which causes frustration for parents. The school will examine alternative transport arrangements over the coming months to ensure a safe, reliable and efficient method to transport our students from this region.

Semaphore

By now you would have received the 2022 Semaphore.  I wish to thank Community Relations Manager, Mrs Julia Bairstow for leading the publication of the Semaphore along with staff, students and community who contributed to this wonderful publication.  The Semaphore is an opportunity to celebrate students' accomplishments over the course of the school year, including academic achievements, extracurricular activities, creative endeavours, school spirit and community engagement.  The Sempahore also serves as a record of the School’s history, including notable events, milestones and changes over time.

Mrs Bairstow will be in touch with the Class of 2022 next week so they can choose how they would like to collect their own issue of the Semaphore.
