THANK YOU to Janina Longman

Sincere thanks to all families who supported CGHS Staff be able to attend the Celebration of Life service for our colleague Gayle Gibson on Thursday 28.3.2019. Your overwhelming support is so very much appreciated.
With the support of Ashfield Boys HS Principal Mr Dwayne Hopwood and retired Principal Mr Tim Jurd Canterbury Girls High School provided supervision for students in attendance on March 28th. A number of local schools assisted by sending staff from their school administration teams.
The opening of the Gayle Gibson Pavilion in Gayle's memory will be on Friday June 14 from 2pm in the afternoon, with music, a mass planting of flowers, and the opportunity to share memories as we dedicate this new playground space to our colleague, friend and mentor. The service will be attended by Years 11-12, student leaders, staff, P&C members, other community guests and Gayle's husband Tony. Our SRC will chair the formal proceedings.
Canterbury Girls High School is pleased to announce we have been identified by ACARA, for the third consecutive year, as having demonstrated substantially above average gain in reading and/or numeracy achievement, as measured by NAPLAN.
To understand how ACARA determines substantially above average gain, please refer to the attached fact sheet.
Improvement in student literacy and/or numeracy of this magnitude, as measured by NAPLAN, is a significant measure of school growth, reflecting quality teaching and learning. Our consistent high gains results over three years is a highlight for the school community.
My School 2019 was updated on April 10, 2019.
The planning for our new covered learning space in the Dome area near the MPC has finally been completed. Construction will start towards the end of this term and be completed in time for Spring.
During the April vacation new lino flooring was laid in A14 and A15 computer rooms, and new carpet was installed in B10 (HSIE room), B12 (HSIE room), B14 (Music room), B17 (LOTE Room), B18 (HSIE room), plus CAPA staffroom and Music practice room.
Painting is planned in 10 locations, mainly exterior work, around the school as part of the ongoing cycle of school maintenance.
In the April vacation the following spaces had interactive data projectors installed:
B9 - HSIE, A6 - Engl, A9 - Maths, B8 - Maths, B18 - HSIE, B16 - LOTE, A2 - TAS
As a follow on other classrooms in CAPA and TAS were able to upgrade using items 'upcycled' from the upgrade. All learning spaces in the school are now equipped with capacity to use digital technology to present teaching and learning, which in combination with BYOD and use of Moodle and Google Classroom sees technology for learning thoroughly embedded in the school.
The data collected by the survey in Term 1 is being reviewed by the executive team and will be used in future strategic planning to improve teaching and learning and student outcomes. The overall results for the school were very positive and trend data comparing previous and current results are very pleasing. More to come in the next newsletter!
Our Staff Development Day 2 on April 29 enabled staff to engage in individualised professional learning via e-learning opportuities. A large number of teachers took the opportunity to gain a credential in the acclaimed "Accidental Counsellor" program, as a support to providing quality student well being in our school.
The day also set aside time for ongoing work in collaboratively evaluating assessment tasks, programs and work samples to identify best practice and attain efficacy in our implementation of new syllabus requirements.
The Twilight workshop on Tuesday May 7 was dedicated to Google Classroom, including differentiated training options and faculty time to implement this platform in our classroom teaching.
