P & C Comedy Night Fundraiser 2019

Save the date! The main P&C Fundraiser for 2019 will be a Comedy Night held on Sat 17th August. We need helpers for prize collection, decorating and set-up - please contact heatherveitch@gmail.com if you can help. Plus if you have any prizes to donate please give them to the school office.

 

Please note, the P&C Wine testing set for June 15 has been postponed to date to be determined, once a new co-ordinator for the event is found. An experienced helper is available to support anyone able to offer their service to coordinate - please contact heatherveitch@gmail.com if you can help.

Tribe and Tribulation School Musical Production

PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

If you can give your time to support the parent teams for catering at one or more performances please contact one of the P&C executive to make your availability known or use the link below.

 

Donations of cakes and sweets are called for on each night of the musical performances; these can be delivered direct to the kitchen in the MPC on the night.

P&C will be cooking up a storm to warm you up on the chilly evenings at our 2019 school musical production.

 

Hot soups and rolls from 5:45pm on Thursday and Friday night, along with snacks and hot and cold drinks nightly.

ANZAC DAY 2019 at Campsie RSL

School Captains Amaani Fieldes-Busingye and Kalya Htoo, accompanied by Prefects Coordinator Ms Fountas, attended the ANZAC Dawn Ceremony in Campsie on 25.4.19, at the Cenotaph at 6.45am.

At the formal service each participating school laid a wreath. After the service,  all walked to Anzac Park for breakfast following which each school was presented with a generous donation from Campsie RSL, presented by Hon. Tony Burke, Federal Member for Watson, Sophie Cotsis, State member for Canterbury and the Campsie RSL Group Board of Directors. In the park and at the RSL club, student projects on the theme of Anzac Day were displayed. CHS U15s Touch Football Carnival

Congratulations to Year 8 student Kylani Koloamatangi who competed at the CHS U15s Touch Football Carnival in Woolongong over the weekend of the 4-5th May. The Year 9 Advisor from South Sydney High School, Jack Spencer, said "Kylani was an outstanding representative for your school and the region, and was humble in both victory and defeat. Kylani should be commended for her outstanding effort and conduct over the tournament.".​

U15 Netball Knockout

Well done to the U15 knockout netball team who competed at the Sydney East Netball knockout carnival at Bellingara netball courts, Sylvania last term on 26th March. CGHS did not proceed to the next round, but the team represented our school with maturity and enthusiasm against seasoned rep players. Thanks girls for a great team spirit!

PAU Band Tour

Congratulations to sisters Emma and Samantha Walker, as well as Caitlin Hamilton and Scarlett Dawson, for being selected to participate with the Performing Arts Unit Band. They go on tour to the North Coast during Week 7, Term 2. Fantastic opportunity to showcase their talent with like students!

Congratulations on a successful win in your 2nd round debating against Gymea Technology High School -  Sofia Goulding, Hester Legge, Sara Orwin, and Zoe Morris. Both teams debated with flair and style presenting their points convincingly, in the end our CGHS team were victorious.  In the coming weeks they will debate Kirawee HS. We wish our debaters luck and great success. Congratulations Year 11 Debaters!

Congratulations to the Premier Debating team for their effort and participation in three rounds of debating - Eleanor Dunstan, Emma Lemonjian, Evie Sanders, Thea Swinfield,  and support debater Lyndsey Barry-Byrnes. This team debated against Burwood Girls HS, Sydney Boys HS and Newtown HS Performing Arts over for the past 2 terms. In all their rounds they presented their arguments with strength and style. They rebutted well and gave the adjudicator a very difficult job in choosing a winner. Though the students will not continue in the next round for debating, we wish them all their best in for the HSC.

Aboriginal Vocal Identification Program

Congratulations Yr 11 student Shaneice Vincent on being selected to participate in the 2019 Aboriginal Vocal Identification Program (VIP). VIP provides an opportunity for students to study and improve vocal techniques whilst increasing their confidence and ability to perform publicly.

Sydney Southeast Symphonic Winds

Congratulations to Neave Sharp (7A) as she has successfully auditioned for participation in the Sydney Southeast Symphonic Winds (SSSW) and has been offered a place as first flute.

Aboriginal Dance Company Selection 2019

Congratulations to Marie Ikonomou in Year 12 and Buia David in Year 10 for being offered a place in the 2019 NSW Public Schools Aboriginal Dance Company.

Over 800 students, across NSW, attended workshops teaching traditional and contemporary dance skills. From these workshops, 30 students were chosen to further develop their skills in this art form by providing opportunities for them to continue their work with the Bangarra tutors and perform at high profile performance events as part of the 2019 NSW Public Schools Aboriginal Dance Company.

Congratulations & Thank yous

All students and staff for your support of the Tell Them From Me student survey in the final weeks of Term 1 - we had a 64% completion rate, with 485 students submitting the survey. 

Staff and students in Years 7 and 9 for successful completion of the NAPLAN online readiness testing process in preparation for Term 2 NAPLAN. Particular thanks to Ms Andrews, Mr Zima, Ms Yen, Maths faculty staff and others trained as Test Administrators. NAPLAN testing went smoothly at Canterbury Girls in weeks 3-4. Well done all!

LEAPS coordinator Ms Conroy, Relieving DP Ms Andrews and Year 9 Year Advisers Ms Jones and Ms Reed for their support of the LEAPS Family and Caregivers Information Evening on April 1 and the first LEAPS excursions on April 8, May 6 and 21 -  see report on students selected for this annual opportunity in Extra-Curricular & Wellbeing.

  • SRC students  Mieke van Wel and Lily Spencer-Tighe who attended the Parliament House Student Leadership Day "Make A Difference" on April 5.
  • Prefects for their holding the "World's Greatest Shave" event on April 5.
  • Debating teams in Years 11 & 12 who have had debates on April 3, 5 and May 2, 13 & 15 coordinated by Ms Stephenson, Ms Strachan and Ms O'Sullivan.
  • Ms Yen for delivering a senior student support Mathematics workshop on April 10 to a fantastic turn out of students eager to improve their performance.  Year 12 will have a Biology workshop on May 29 with Ms Delmas, and an English Teachers Association Day for HSC students is scheduled for June 26.  This series of curriculum workshops follows on from Ms Houvardas' February 27 Legal Studies workshop and the seminars for high performance English students by Year 12 2018 student Coco Wang (2nd in the State in Advanced English).
  • CAPA staff and students who participated on the last 2 days of Term 1 in Musical Production Days as part of the preparation for Tribe & Tribulation, followed by weekend rehearsals on May 11 and May 26.
  • Mrs Jane Cooper for coordination of School Cross Country at Peace Park on April 10, and all staff for their support of the carnival in beautiful early Autumn weather.
  • Hannah Carr, Year 9, and Zoe Morris, Year 11, for performing with The Arts Unit Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SWE) at the IN CONCERT on Monday May 20th.
  • All staff, especially Relieving Deputy Principal Ms Andrews for coordination, and families for their attendance at the April 9 Parent Teacher interviews for Years 7,11 and 12. Save the date now for Years 8, 9 &  10 interviews on July 2.  
  • Outgoing P&C executive, with an especially huge thanks to Heather Veitch, President for two years and Vice-President for two years prior.
