Year 7 Science – Melbourne Zoo excursion

Thursday 8th and Friday 9th August, 2019

As part of the Year 7 Science curriculum, students attended the Melbourne Zoo ‘Save our Species’ program over the course of two days. The program highlighted the impact that humans have had and can have on the environment, in both negative and positive ways.

“The excursion was a lot of fun. It was filled with new interesting information at every enclosure we went to. Animals are in danger and it was just until then when we found out about it. My favourite part of the Zoo was going to the butterfly house. The butterflies were beautifully flying around and it was just a pleasant experience to have. The ‘Save our species workshop’ was also enjoyable and had many impacts on how were living our life in the past and how we can improve.

The program was undertaken to provide the year 7 students with knowledge and stimuli to assist them with their inquiry task, ‘What are we doing to our planet?’ Students are completing this assignment over the next few weeks and will be required to take action to reduce their own personal impact on a chosen ecosystem.
