Community Partnerships in Action

Lalor Secondary College’s (LSC) Year 11 and 12 Food Studies students formed a community partnership with Catholic Ladies’ College (CLC) Year 11 and 12 VCAL students and the St Vincent de Paul team back in 2018 to support families in need. In 2019, the program was able to be continued thanks to the Lynne Kosky VCAL Memorial Grant which was successfully secured. With the funding, this amazing experience, led by teachers Jade Charalambous (CLC) and Simon Matzke (LSC) and the students from each school to work collaboratively for such a great cause.

It proves that is does not matter what school you attend or where you live, that anybody can come together, step up and unite for people in need.

The students prepared a main meal and a dessert over a period of three sessions this year and as a result, over thirty families with children were able to take the night off from cooking, share family time together and enjoy the fabulous meals on offer. Over the two years with the program, 177 meals were made. We endeavor to keep this program running in 2020 as it’s been such an enjoyable experience for everyone involved
