Assistant Principal
Year 11 & 12
With two weeks of Term 3 to go, and the final SACs being completed for Unit 4, year 12 students are in the final stages of their School Assessed Coursework. And should now be prepping for their Indicative exams that will be running over the holiday break. For your convenience the schedule is below. Year 12 students also recently had their final Elevate session for the year “Ace your Exams” which gave students a range of strategies for preparation of exams.
Year 12 students will receive their VCAA exam timetables starting today and this will give students an idea of how their exams will be spaced out and will mean that they can start to plan a study timetable.
The Year 11 students have been given information about the compulsory ‘Year 12 Study Conference’ that starts their academic year in 2020. Students are able to pay for that using current CSEF funding and I encourage all students to attend. The camp involves, study sessions, wellbeing sessions, fun activities and some opportunities to build relationships with the staff they will be working with next year. Any questions about the camp, please contact Sam Magnano or Emma Domm, the Year 12 Student Managers.
It’s been lovely now that Spring has officially begun and with the warmer days, students are taking full advantage of the outdoor school facilities to be active at lunchtime. With Term 4 approaching, this is a good time for all students to check their uniform and ensure preparedness for the change into the Summer LSC uniform.

Year 9 & 10
Year 10 Formal
On Friday 23rd August, 84 students and 18 Lalor Secondary College staff attended the Year 10 Formal at Normanby House in Thornbury. The night began with a number of students arriving in their limousines, decked out Hummers, and old school classics, but not surprisingly, the modes of transport were not the show stealers. All students looked absolutely magnificent, many of them almost unrecognizable. It was an absolute pleasure seeing our young adults arrive in such style, and their efforts certainly continued on throughout the night.
All students should be proud of the efforts they went to in order to look a stunning, beautiful and handsome as they were, and parents and families should be proud of their children for the way in which they conducted themselves.
Highlights of the night certainly include seeing all staff and students cutting some amazing shapes on the dancefloor, the awards ceremony, including Mr. Murcott’s dance down to receive his award, and the dessert!
Year 9 Gold Coast Camp
After many hours of meticulous planning by the Year 9 Student Managers, Ms. Rebecca Kotsopoulos and Mr. Steven Murcott, 59 Year 9 students boarded the bus to Melbourne Tullamarine Airport en-route to the Gold Coast. This gave students the opportunity to explore themselves as young adults. Staff involved in the trip have all reported that students have had an absolutely amazing time. Highlights of this trip have no doubt been Warner Brothers Movie World, Wet n Wild, and the tree surfing at Thunderbird Park.
All students need to be congratulated on their exceptional behaviour and the way that they have represented themselves, their families and the school. Students such as those who have attended this year’s Gold Coast camp positively impact the ability for the Year 9 Student Management team to plan ahead for future camps, and are in no doubt developing themselves as well rounded individuals with the experiences of travelling and experiencing new and exciting things

Year 7 & 8
I’m so excited to be attending the Victorian School Spectacular with many of our Junior, as well as later year students next Saturday 14th September.
The annual Victorian School Spectacular is an invaluable performing arts opportunity for Victoria’s government school students. As one of the largest recurring productions in Australia, the Victorian State Schools Spectacular brings together over 3000 school students performing as a 64-piece orchestra, 1300 voice choir, 1200 mass dancers, among soloists and others. Participating students have the opportunity to work with industry professionals, and students develop their creative skills, perseverance and confidence over months of rehearsals.
The event will be held at Hisense Arena on Saturday 14 September 2019, and broadcast on Channel 7 in the following months.
Our Mass choir has been busy rehearsing for the event, and we are certain will do the College proud with their professionalism and talent.
A reminder that parent teacher conferences occur on Thursday 19th September from 1pm to 8pm. This is an invaluable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with their teachers. The report portal will open approximately one week prior to this evening. Should you experience any difficulty accessing the portal, please be in touch with our office.
It’s that time of year again when we look forward to the many new families who will be joining our college at year 7 in 2020. Should students have siblings starting in 2020, please reassure them that it is an exciting time, and we look forward to involving families and new students in the broad range of activities that occur between now and the end of year. Often year 6 students visit our college, engaging in programs that allow familiarity with our college. There is also our ‘Get to know you’ day late in October when some diagnostic testing will occur as well as some staff introductions, Pre-orientation for students with particular needs, Information Evening (14th November) and Orientation Day (10th December). It’s a busy but exciting time.
