Physical Education

 

Term 1

 

This term in Physical Education students in years Prep-2 will be developing a variety of skills across many areas of the Physical Education curriculum. Before skill based activities are started a fun aerobic warm up game will be played, aiming to increase fitness through exciting and interesting activities. Students will develop their team work and co-operative skills while participating in a unit on team building activities. Fundamental Movement Skills including hopping, skipping, jumping, leaping, running, side stepping, and dodging will be developed and introduced into simple and minor games. The students will also be developing their balance including static and dynamic balance. Students will use different parts of their body to balance bean bags while in different positions either static or when moving. Throughout the term students will also continue to develop Fundamental Motor Skills including underarm throwing, rolling, overarm throwing  and catching. Students will practice these skills while being stationary and also while being on the move.  For grade 1 and 2 students the main theme for this term is the overarm throw and catch.

 

 

This term in Physical Education students in years 3, 4, 5 & 6 will start the term developing their team work skills and co-operative skills while participating in a unit on Team Building. Once the team building unit has been completed students will be undertaking the following units: Hockey, Hot Shots tennis and Tee-ball. During our unit on hockey, push passing, dribbling and trapping skills will be developed. In Tee-ball overarm throwing and catching and two-handed striking will be practiced and students will use gloves. Hot shots tennis will include one and two handed striking and the scoring system will be introduced and practiced. Students will focus on trying to rally with each other. Team work will continue to be developed during all of these units of work.

Students in year 6 have competed at the summer lightning premiership and will begin weekly summer interschool sports on Friday morning.
