Alumni News

When International Superstar, Tones and I, visited MGC on the eve of lockdown 5.0, she wasn’t the only VIP we hosted.  If it wasn’t for Charlotte Johnston, MGC Class of 2013, we may have never had the opportunity to host the record setting musician at all!

As an international tourism and entertainment manager, Charlotte Johnston wears many hats, but she didn’t forget her roots when her current employer, Tones and I, set out to speak to students and perform at local schools on the eve of her first album release. Charlotte knows how important the performing arts are at MGC, and immediately got in touch with Anne Corry, the department lead.  It isn’t easy putting together an assembly for 400 on a few days’ notice, but you’d think it was an everyday occurrence for Ms. Corry and her colleagues, with everything falling into place seamlessly.  Tones and I spoke to the enthusiastic audience about perseverance, played a few songs, and stayed until every interested student was able to take a selfie with her.  MGC alumna Charlotte Johnston was a hero that day, and a relatable inspiration to many current MGC students.

Melbourne Girls’ College joined the Ourschool Alumni Program Foundation Service beginning in 2020.  Ourschool is a not for profit service dedicated to helping public high schools establish and build their alumni networks to benefit students and strengthen public school communities.
When alumni return to the school, in person or virtually, to share their career pathways with current students, they become a relatable resource having recently walked the same halls at MGC.
If you are or know an alum who would like to share her post-MGC pathway with the alumni coordinator, email alumni@mgc.vic.edu.au
