Premier's VCE Awards

Melbourne Girls’ College students Ashley Monaghan, Ana Luiza Souza Alberti and Tien Jade Pham received top honours this week for their outstanding VCE results in 2020.

Ashley Monaghan received a Premier’s VCE Award for excellence in Product Design and Technology, Ana Luiza Souza Alberti received an award for Drama and Visual Communication Design and Tien Jade Pham was recognised for Vietnamese Second Language undertaken at the Van Khoa Vietnamese Language School. This puts them among the top VCE students in the state in 2020.

“I am absolutely grateful to receive Premier's VCE Award for Product Design and Technology, however, something like this doesn't happen on its own without the support of friends and teachers” said Ashley Monaghan, who is now studying a Bachelor of Science majoring in Physics at Melbourne University. She is also a representative of the Physics Student Society at Unimelb and a moderator/author for ATAR Notes, and is looking to do a postgrad in Physics or Electrical Engineering in the future.

“I would like to acknowledge my peers and teachers for always giving their moral support every step of the way and watching this design journey from start to finish. Without them, especially during the remote learning period, nothing like this would have ever been possible. After all, a designer and their designs are powerless without the influence of their end-user.”

Earlier in the year, Luiza Alberti’s media animation was selected as a part of Top Screen, a state-wide program, that exhibits the work of the top Media students of 2020. Luiza’s animation Itsy Bitsy can be found below. Luiza is currently studying Animation and Interactive Media at RMIT University.

Jade Pham is a current VCE student here at Melbourne Girls’ College. She is currently completing her final semester of Year 12. "I feel proud of myself to see my name as one of the students who achieved a high study score in VCE. I didn't expect to receive this award but I think it's worth all the effort I put in, studying hard for this subject" said Jade.

"I found VCE at MGC quite difficult since the lockdowns, pandemics are happening and it is impacting the quality of how I learn. But the teachers at school are always making sure that I understand the lesson and supporting me whenever I need it. I strongly believe that I can pull this off and achieve higher scores because MGC provides an excellent experience for students. After VCE, I'm planning to enrol in university for a bachelor of psychology science, particularly aiming for either La Trobe or ACU. I'm currently working hard for my future career which is to work as a mental health counsellor which I'm extremely passionate about."

Melbourne Girls’ College acting principal Andrew Arney said the entire school community was proud of their Premier’s VCE Award recipients.

“Congratulations to Ashley, Luiza and Jade on your hard work and dedication in your chosen VCE subjects. It is wonderful to see your achievements recognised in the Premier’s VCE awards for 2020, particularly in light of how difficult and disruptive the year proved to be. At Melbourne Girls’ College, we aim to provide a supportive environment for young learners, and we are incredibly proud of what you have achieved in your time with us. I wish you all possible success in your time beyond MGC.”

297 of Victoria’s brightest students were recognised by this year’s Premier’s VCE Awards.
