Our free, 45 minute sessions are presented by community members with lived experience of mental illness. The presenters speak from the heart, sharing their personal story as well as our expert knowledge.

Relationships Australia: Parenting Teens and Managing Screens

How can we still connect to our teens when screens take up so much of their attention, time and worries?

Are you:

  • Concerned about screen time and your teen?
  • Worried about screen time impacting on your teen’s health, sleep, mental wellbeing and social skills?
  • Feeling like screen time has gotten a bit out of hand since the onset of COVID-19?

In this two-hour session, we will cover key developmental changes that are happening for your teen.

We will consider the positive and negative aspects of screens in our teen’s lives; support our teens emotional intelligence and resilience; and ways to help you better connect with them.

Butterfly Foundation: Let's Talk Body Confident Children and Teens

With a focus on prevention, this sessions provides information and practical tips to help parents understand and promote positive body image in the home. This session is being offered as part of Butterfly's Body Kind Families initiative and by registering you will automatically receive access to free Body Kind Families resources.

 

Format:  Live Virtual Presentation using Zoom 5.0

Length: 1hr, plus 15 minutes for questions

Time: 7 - 8.15pm (AEST)

Suitable for: Carers of primary and secondary age children.  Please note this session is not designed for children to attend or for those caring for someone with an eating disorder. 

You will explore:

  • Overview of body image and the importance of prevention
  • Key influences on body image, including social media
  • The impact of diet culture and weight stigma
  • Reducing appearance talk and how to respond when a child expresses negativity towards themselves/others
  • The power of role modelling positive body image and healthy behaviours
  • Understanding warning signs and the importance of early intervention
  • What to do if you are concerned.
