From the Principal

Matt Dowell

Principal

The term is quickly racing by and I would like to commend our students for their positive contribution to our College, particularly over the course of the last few weeks in the lead up to Dowerin, the College Ball and our highly successful Open Day.

Open Day Success

I must say that last Friday’s annual Open Day was beyond exceptional! The energy, excitement and pride was tangible as our staff and students showcased our College. Our students were well presented, engaged with our College community beautifully and represented both themselves and our College to the highest of standards. Throughout the day I received fantastic feedback from parents, prospective parents and students, old collegians, industry representatives and general community members.

I would like to thank all staff and students for their efforts in the lead up to and on the day, the industry and community representatives who had displays along with all of the families who were able to make it. It was a humbling and proud moment for me, and I hope you felt the same as you celebrated all things positive about our fantastic College and our students.

COVID Vaccine

As of this Saturday I myself will be fully vaccinated. Bookings have opened for Western Australians aged 16 to 29 and I encourage parents to support students to get vaccinated. Vaccination bookings are essential and can be made by visiting Roll Up for WA.

Yr 12’s & Farewell Dinner

To acknowledge our Year 12’s and all of their achievements we will again this year be treating them to a farewell banquet dinner at the Sporties Club. This will be on Tuesday 21st September (Week 10).

WA Education Awards

I am pleased to advise that Madison Corsini has been announced as one of only four finalists for the 2021 WA Education Awards for excellence in service. A judging panel will visit the College next week to interview Madison, staff, students and community representatives. Wishing Madison all the very best!

Valedictory Date

This year’s Valedictory Ceremony is scheduled for Friday 12th November (Week 5). At this stage there will be 6 guests permitted per student but may change depending on latest health advice on venue capacity limits. Invitations will go out in the coming weeks.

We will maintain the same format as last year for Valedictory and present the Year 11 scholarships at a separate ceremony on their last day of the year (26th November Friday Week 7). All Year 11 parents will be encouraged to attend and we will also announce the incoming Head Boy/Girl at this ceremony.

2021 Country Week

Following consultation with schools and families, The Department of Education have officially cancelled Country Week for 2021. To somewhat compensate, we have arranged for a Cunderdin Ag V Narrogin Ag sports event to take place on the last day of term in Corrigin. Although the College Closes at 1pm on the last day of term, we do not anticipate the students will return from Corrigin until closer to 2pm. For management and safety reasons, students will not be permitted to self-drive to Corrigin on the Friday morning.

Year 12’s

This time of year is always busy and pressure-filled for our soon to depart Year 12’s. I would like to commend all of our Year 12’s for pushing through these busy times and focussing on finalising their course and Certificate requirements and preparing for end of year and upcoming ATAR exams. Your hard efforts will pay off and you will leave us with a suite of qualifications and achievements that will give you an edge as you transition into work or further study. Well worth the last-ditched effort!

Wishing you all a restful, enjoyable and safe weekend ahead.
