Supporting student learning

The library team have been busy behind the scenes this term, creating research guides to support a range of the topics and texts studied in class. We have been using Libguides software to curate a wide range of resources, such as useful websites, databases, study guides, interviews, podcasts, journal articles and more.

If you are studying English, have a look to see if there is a Libguide for the text you are currently reading in class!  Or check out the Research Skills guide using the QR code below.

To access all our Libguides, go to the John Cain Library Website (located under the star menu on Compass). Log in via Guest or SSO > under Research Guides you will find links to various guides the library team have put together. We are continually creating guides for new subjects and adding to this list, so watch this space.

If you have any questions about Libguides or are having trouble accessing them, please contact the library team.

Book Week events postponed

The library team have decided to postpone Book Week Celebrations until we all back on site. We are mindful of how much time staff and students are spending online and don’t feel many of our activities would successfully transfer to an online format.

We hope Book Week activities are something students can look forward to.

eBooks - A great way to keep reading

Don't forget that the Library has a huge range of eBooks and Audiobooks available for you to borrow online over lockdown. There are a variety of different categories to choose from such as Fantasy, classics, biographies, #OZYA, and more.

Go straight to the Wheelers icon on the John Cain Library page and log in using your NHS email and compass password or using the QR code here:

You can read eBooks or listen to audiobooks online via your internet browser or download the Wheelers App onto your device.

Once you borrow a book it will stay on your record for two weeks and then automatically drop off at the end of the loan period. It will never be overdue! It is also possible to renew your books and make reservations.

The library team are available for support Monday-Friday 8am – 4pm

Take care everyone and keep reading!
