Years Ten to Twelve Girls Buchanan Cup

On 15 August the Girls' Country Week Hockey team jumped on the bus, hockey bags packed on the back two seats and their study bags in hand, ready for the five hour trip up to Perth. Once we arrived at Cottesloe Beach Chalets we dropped our bags and headed off with Mr Ferreira for a relaxing beach walk, enjoying the break from school. For dinner Mr Scott bought us pasta and a selection of sauces for each room to cook for themselves and afterwards the team headed into town for some ice cream (which Lauren didn’t finish).

The next morning everyone was up at 6:30am, munching on some breakfast and packing their hockey bags for the day. Our first game was at 9.00am against Shenton College and Tara Cunningham scored the first goal of the day (which we later voted the goal of the day) off a short corner, causing us to win 1-0. Our second game was against Northshore, a new school who put in a younger team to gain some experience, we won 14-0. Our next game was the toughest of the round robin, playing against Narrogin Senior High School to which we drew 0-0. Then to make up for Bunbury Senior High School dropping out of our pool we played Northshore again, and after hearing the girls on the Northshore team say, “come on guys! If we get a goal, we get an ice cream!” our team collectively gave the Northshore girls a shot on goal and they scored. The celebration after the goal consisted of tears and many high fives and later, after the game, seeing the Northshore team all eating ice creams, made all our hearts warm. Lastly, we played a cross over final against Bunbury Cathedral Grammar, a team we have played against in a small comp against here in Albany, which we drew 1-1.  This means that we are now in grand final, to be played at a later date, against Como.

A big shout out to Mr Scott for organising everything and teaching Emma and I some last minute PE Studies, Mr Ferreira for coaching us and getting us home, and Sienna Ball for umpiring.
