Camfield Homeroom TaskMaster Challenge

This year has seen Camfield Senior School homerooms participate in a range of TaskMaster Challenges.

Our most recent task was for homerooms to create an outfit out of newspaper for their Homeroom teacher to parade in front of the House. Camfield One (Mr Ruggera’s Homeroom) produced a sleek, business like number that was combined with a steely determination whilst being paraded. Camfield Two (Mr Burke’s Homeroom) produced a hat, tie and poncho number before the poncho readily gave way to provide room for Mr Burke to worm his way back down the runway! A classy hat, sweater vest and bow tie combo was created by Camfield Three (Dr Watson’s Homeroom) which was modelled with much enthusiasm. Finally, a delicate pleated pinafore style garment, adorned with ribbons and bows was the masterpiece created by Camfield Four (Ms Couper’s Homeroom). There could only be one winner and this time for his infectious enthusiasm in modelling a stylish and appropriate outfit, the winning homeroom was Camfield Three – Dr Watson’s. Thank you to all Camfield Students and the Homeroom Teachers for being such good sports!

Young Writers' Collective

On Wednesday, students from Years Nine to Twelve were hosted by the Albany Residential College for a day of writing workshops with published screenwriter and novelist, Kathryn Lefroy. Kathryn is the daughter of husband and wife writer team Joy and Mike Lefroy who have visited our school to talk about their historical picture book The Catalpa Escape

Kathryn was energetic and our students matched her energy with their own brand of enthusiasm for all things wordy and produced some highly engaging writing. They examined where creative ideas come from and with ATAR English and Literature courses being almost forty percent concerned with creative writing, this is a very important discussion to ponder. It was a delight to be with our creative and hard working writers as they shared ideas and writing. The day ended with a session on screen writing which produced lively discussion and some screen worthy pitches and performances!

We are fortunate to have had this opportunity, made available to our students and I thank Ms Penny Leiper for her support of this programme. Well done to our students for taking up this opportunity. I encourage others who enjoy writing, to jump on board. Speak to your English teacher today about next term’s writer!
