Student Wellbeing

Today we presented our Year 12 students with their Year 12 jumper, a significant rite of passage. As they drove up to receive this gift, I was overcome with a deep sense of pride at the remarkable resilience and strength that they have shown over their senior years at Kilbreda College. I reflected on the wonderful ways in which they have supported each other across their secondary schooling, their fun-loving nature, their unique personalities and their commitment to their studies.  As always, they have shown the Kilbreda quality in doing their best and achieving much in doing so.  As they prepare for their upcoming trial exams or their VCAL showcase we keep them and their families in our thoughts and prayers.  May their final months as Kilbreda students be filled with a love of learning and much joy and happiness.

Brigidine Day 2021 – ‘Go the distance for Refugees’ Strava Challenge

Our ‘Go the distance for refugees’ strava challenge is going great.  There are 158 members of our community participating in this initiative and walking in solidarity with the millions of forgotten men, women and children refugees and asylum seekers who are forced to leave loved ones behind and start new lives in strange environments.  This week our team has completed 225 activities and covered a total distance of 1160 kilometres.

The ‘Go the distance for refugees’ Strava challenge is designed to support the work of the Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project (BASP) and raise much needed funds to assist them with their ministry to those that Pope Francis describes as ‘being on the periphery.’ BASP is a Kildare Ministries community work in the Brigidine tradition, based physically in Melbourne, but supporting people seeking asylum and those with protection visas across the state of Victoria, and engaging in national advocacy.  The Project works with, and for, people seeking asylum both in detention and in the community.
