Health and Physical Education

Wednesday 1 September is National Health and Physical Education Day.

Unfortunately, Australian school children rank among the worst in the world when it comes to their physical activity levels. One way to tackle this problem is to have better knowledge and understanding of how to lead active and healthy lifestyles.

Our Health and Physical Education Program at the College prides itself on continually trying to provide knowledge and education about health and wellbeing. Through our Physical Education program at Year 7 to 10 particularly, we always aim to encourage our students to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.

Maybe this is the year that you improve your physical activity levels.

Term 3 hasn’t quite gone the way we planned it. However, our wonderful and dedicated Health and Physical Education team of teachers have done everything they can to ensure our students are able to experience the many activities that our Health and Physical Education program has to offer. It is obviously a very challenging time for everyone and, as we all know, taking care of ourselves, particularly our mental and physical health and wellbeing is vital. Getting active and engaged in your Physical Education classes is one way to look after your mental and physical health and wellbeing.

Our Year 8 Physical Education classes have been undertaking their cheerleading program whilst in remote learning. These sessions have been run by experienced instructors from ‘Proactivity’. The program has had to be altered to suit the current situation. However, we hope that our Year 8 students are having fun and getting the many benefits that cheerleading has to offer, such as improving physical endurance and strength.

The Year 10 Health and Physical Education classes over these next couple of weeks will be participating in a yoga and pilates session, also delivered by ‘Proactivity’. Last semester, our Year 10 classes also participated in these sessions whilst in remote learning and had wonderful feedback to give. So, we really hope the students get involved in these sessions and enjoy. Maybe the whole family can get involved!

Over the coming weeks, our Year 8 Health classes will be participating in a workshop delivered by ‘Elephant Ed’. Across this term, our Year 8 students have been learning about gender, Identity and respectful Relationship. There has been some great learning, discussions and engagement taking place in those Year 8 Health classes and we hope these workshops provide further knowledge and understanding of such important topics.
