Wellbeing News

I hope all families are managing the best they can do during another lockdown.  Remember to be kind to yourselves and create some routine for everyone in the house.  Routine is so important for our mental well being, particularly children’s wellbeing.  Routine includes all aspects of the day.

“Keeping routine, predictable environment and habits, is one of the psychological  protective factors that we can employ right now.”  (Kristen Douglas, Head of headspace in Schools).  This means getting up at the normal time, getting dressed and following a routine that works for you and your family that can be repeated the next day.

While this may sound boring, predictability is something that we all crave for, particularly in this time of unpredictability.  Predictability will help build independence and accountability in your children.

The Daily Routine is included in this link.  Use it after dinner to plan and prepare for the next day.  Work with your child, so that they too can have a voice and preference.  As with any part of life, there are non-negotiables and negotiables.

Also included in this link is an article from Smiling Minds. Smiling Minds is an app about Mindfulness. It highlights the benefits of mindfulness - to pay attention to what is happening in the moment. It can help reduce stress, improve focus, concentration and creativity.  I hope you find such resources helpful for you and your family.

We do understand that some children and families may find these times more challenging.  We urge you to reach out to your child’s teacher or the Wellbeing Team, so that support and adjustments can be made to lessen anxiety and stress.

Keep warm and well
