From the Principal

Ms Noelene Hussey

Dear Families,

In my last newsletter I wrote ‘This latest lockdown has certainly tested our resilience and agility.’ and I believe it is even more applicable for this lockdown. I hope you are all coping as best you can and we just keep hoping and praying that not only our lives will get back to normal soon but those who have been diagnosed with COVID will recover quickly.

Our Remote learning Guidelines were shared with you on Monday so I hope this provides you with a clear picture of our community’s expectations during lockdowns and remote learning. It is important that our children complete the tasks that their teachers have set for them. I realise that remote learning can cause tension in our homes but our children cannot afford to be offline and missing out on valuable learning opportunities. If you are having issues please contact your child’s teacher, our wellbeing leaders Kristie Browning or Monique McIntyre or myself and we can discuss any support you may need.  A reminder that children whose parents are both essential workers and not able to work from home are eligible to attend school onsite.

The Olympic Games have been so intriguing and there have been wonderful moments making us all proud to be Australian. Our athletes' hard work, determination and courage have been inspiring and I hope our children have been encouraged to follow their dreams, just as our olympians have. Winning medals is always something to celebrate but the examples of sportsmanship have been outstanding and hopefully our children have noticed that being on the podium is not everything. In the men’s decathlon, Cedric Dubler sacrificing his own race to urge on Ash Maloney to win a bronze, Pat Tiernan falling 3 times and then finishing the 10,000m, the male high jumpers sharing a gold medal, Patty Mills pride to lead our Basketballers to win a bronze, and the determination of the marathon runners to finish in such trying conditions have been uplifting. These and many more examples of athletes living out the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect have shown our children that winning is not the ultimate but achieving your best is!

Congratulations to our children who received their Eucharist for the first time last weekend. The celebrations were very reflective and meaningful to our children. Our next Eucharist celebrations will be held on the weekend of August: Saturday 28th August 5:30pm and Sunday 29th August 10:30am. Congratulations to Mila C, Joseph C, Keith C, Ruby F, Indiana H, Talon O, Julien P, Chanel S, Asher S, Leon M, Cooper P, Phoebe B, Coby C, Emily D, Rose D, Levi H, Matthew H, Chase J, Dakota J, Archie M, Jaxon M, Willow N, Elijah R, Callum R, Ruby R, James R, Jacob S, Eva S and Scarlett D on celebrating your first Eucharist.

CyberSafety Information Session

We are holding a cybersafety webinar for parents on Wednesday August 25th at 7.30pm. The session aims at providing parents important information about the social popular networking platforms and the online world that our children have access to.

I am often contacted by parents about their children being exposed to unsafe situations while online. This session will provide you with ideas on how to establish and maintain a safe digital environment at home.

Unfortunately we have very few parents who have registered and this is extremely disappointing. I urge all parents, from all levels, to make the time and register for this important webinar. I am sure you will learn many ways to ensure your children are safe whilst online

Information is in the General Information section of this newsletter or register with this link

Positive Behaviour for Learning

Our focus for the upcoming weeks is to be RESILIENT when we are playing outside.

Our children are developing their resilience, having to develop and maintain a positive attitude and mindset to adjust to remote learning. Our message to our children will be to try your best, ensure you get off your screens when you have finished your work and your teachers are available to talk to if you are having any difficulties.
