St Mary of the Cross MacKillop Prayer

Lord,

Please help us to live the qualities that Mary showed.

Please help us to show courage when faced with difficult challenges.

Please help us to be good leaders and be loyal to everyone.

Thank you Lord for always helping us look on the bright side.

Help us to trust in you and strive towards being more like Mary.

Amen.

We celebrate Mary MacKillop’s feast day this week.  She was an educator, a pioneer and a leader. She showed compassion to all she met no matter what their personal circumstances were or their culture or race. Mary was passionate about education and set up schools in country Australia. She began the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, dedicating her life with other women to meet the spiritual and material needs of struggling people. Mary died peacefully on August 8th 1909 and she was canonized a Saint on October 17th 2010.

Her Legacy lives on today in Sunbury with Sr Jose working in our parish. 

Mary MacKillop had many significant and meaningful sayings, some of which are below. 

Whatever troubles may be before you, accept them bravely, remembering whom you are trying to follow. Do not be afraid. Love one another, bear with one another, and let charity guide you all your life.

We must teach more by example than by word 

Find happiness in making others happy

Never see a need without doing something about it 

Be eager in your desires but humbly patient in their accomplishment

Let us show this love in our acts of bearing with one another, forcing and forgetting
