Hi, I’m Mackenzie and I have participated in VHAP for the last two terms. What VHAP (the Victorian High Ability Program) is, well as it says  in the title it is an extended program. So, the government looks at your NAPLAN scores and if you are chosen, you meet online once a week with a teacher and other students that excel and have class together. The times switch on a fortnightly basis, so you get taken out of class and login online. There is both a Maths and English VHAP though you can only participate in one per term. You may be chosen to do English one term then Maths the next, or the other way around. I participated in both this year and it was fun and educational, I have learnt so much about so many different topics. For Maths we worked on a lot of different topics ranging from algebra to looking at infinity. For English thought we mainly looked at dystopian literature and writing a text about a dystopian world (either a poem or narrative). It’s really an amazing program. If you get the chance I definitely would recommend doing it; it is a fun, extended way to learn.

Hello, I am Joseph, one of the students who has attended the English and Maths Victorian High Ability Program (VHAP). The VHAP is a special program that is for students with high academic abilities, as the name suggests. Students learn different topics in either Math or English which are above the level they are currently in at school. They learn interesting topics not usually taught in normal schools. Students are selected based on the NAPLAN scores they receive. Some students get into the required scores in both Math and English, therefore doing both VHAPs. The experience is a unique journey and I have learned many fascinating patterns and algebra from Maths, and writing types and words from English. I had a great time being in the program and am grateful for the experience.
