Room 5
This term room 5 and room 5A has been working with room 10 and 11 every Tuesday as a part of our big buddy learning. Our focus has been about the Hooded Plover, a bird found in the coastal regions of Australia. We made some masks this week.
Keeping Our Teeth Clean
Room 19
This week in room 19 we were lucky enough to have a dental hygienist come and give us a hands on and interactive presentation on how to keep our mouth, teeth and gums healthy. We had the opportunity to experiment with plaque disclosing tablets and learnt about the correct techniques when brushing and flossing.
Room 32
Reconciliation Week
For Reconciliation Week we looked at Aboriginal Art. We looked at the symbols used to represent people and animals and some of the designs we have seen in our garden and the community. We used these designs to create our own art on boomerang shapes.
Room 29
This year for Visual Arts we have ...
- learnt about line, tone, proportion, colour and shading
- explored dark and light lines and thick and thin lines
- needed to control our pencils to shade between the lines
- focused on shadows and highlighted these to make our drawings look 3 dimensional
- learnt about proportion to make our drawings look right
- transferred our knowledge from pencil drawings to shading with colour
Room 20
We have been looking at shapes and their properties. In small groups we had to find specific shapes and place them in hoops. We reported to the class what we found and reasons why we had placed each object into the hoop. Later in the day we went on to the computers using Mult-e-Math software to find shapes and then label them. The following lesson we went outside to draw shapes on to the flower blackboards along the school fence line. We enjoyed working outside in the sunshine and we are looking forward to the next shape adventure.....
Indonesian and Room 17
Room 17 have been learning about shapes in Maths. We have looked at 2D and 3D shapes and explored their properties.
In Indonesian with Bu Chish we have learnt the names of some 2D shapes and are beginning to use these in our learning. We can recognise that some of the names of shapes are connected with the number of sides the shape has!
Segitiga = triangle
Segiempat = rectangle

Independent Reading
Current research shows that children who perform well at school read on average three times more than students who do not perform well. It has been demonstrated that the single best strategy for improving student performance in all subject areas is to increase the amount of reading a child engages in.
Students from Room 23 have been participating in an Independent Reading program. Children read independently for 20 minutes a day. They are encouraged to read books they enjoy to help develop a lifelong love of reading. Children are involved in one to one discussions with the teacher about their reading and record all reading on a reading record sheet.
Reading 20 minutes a day equates to approximately 160,000 words a year read by each child.

Poems & Songs
We have been writing poems and songs to show our grammar learning.
We would like to share some with you.
Ashton and Lachlan
Nouns are names,
Of a place person or thing.
We will tell you about them,
But we will not sing.
Adjectives are describing words,
We use them when we write.
We will give you an example,
His suit was black as night.
Verbs tell us about the things we do,
Jumping, skipping and running too.
Adverbs tell us how we move,
Like dancing in the groove.
Jude, Jacob, Richard, Will and Brad
Row, row, row your boat,
A boats a common noun.
If you think it’s an adjective,
You’ll make your teacher frown.
Amber, Jorja, Tiannah and Rebecca L.
A noun is a name,
Like the word game.
A verb is a doing word, Like I heard.
An adjective is a describing word,
Just like a beautiful bird.
Room 3
Staying Alive!
In room 3 we have been focusing on the science topic of ‘Staying Alive’ and discussing the importance of looking after living things. This week the students have been really excited about planting their beans. The students have enjoyed watching them grow and taking care of them throughout the week. As a class, we have had a chance to talk about what they know and what they would like to find out about plants. During the term we will work together, as a group to answer their questions and analyse how their plants are growing.
